Information

Found high up in the mountains near the clouds, or wherever lightning has recently struck. These quiet, lonesome beasts will travel to the highest mountain peaks to harness the power of storms.

The most skilled Zapbits have been observed to be able to magically conjure storm clouds to ride on.

The Zapbit's copper staff can develop a teal-colored patina over time that acts to protect the metal inside. They often wear this along their their own age with pride, a sign that they have likely faced much in their journeys.

Origin

Zapbits were originally hares found in the southern desert regions, fearfully hiding away when the very common lightning storms rolled through the area, believing them to be a massive beast.

In primordial times, the world suddenly found itself in a sudden of fire, then storms, raging more violently than most had ever seen in their lifetime. These conditions showed no signs of ending, yet the hares restlessly took shelter in their shelters as the skies wept and the churning dark grey clouds rumbled with thunder. Despite their preparations, their resources were wearing thin.

A singular hare decided to brave the storm, traveling to the highest peaks prepared to face an enormous storm beast, driven by its wish for the warren to safely emerge from their burrows. Carrying a copper staff found on its quest, the hare reached the peak and challenged the sky, and was met with a bolt of lightning. It's believed that the hare's will and staff kept it safe from the powerful lightning strike, and it transformed into the first Zapbit. It gained an instinctual connection to storm magic, and in addition, its staff became imbued with lightning. As the Zapbit returned to the warren, the raging storms paused, and the hares emerged in time to face and survive the oncoming rain and floods.

To this day, the journey is now an important tradition that the bravest hares follow.
