Demon Lord Zeraxos is a Challenger Card that was first seen and printed in the Grotto Beasts! Trading Card Game. The character is a reference to the Jermaverse character of the same name as seen in multiple Jerma Rumble streams. Zeraxos is the main antagonist in the Grotto Beasts storyline.
The Card
Card Effect
At the start of each player's turn, if they have more Beasts in play than their opponents, that player may discard a Beast they own. If they don't, their opponents score a card. |
Card Revision 1 - Digital Release
Balance Changes
- Card Effect updated:
At the start of each player's turn, if that player has more Beasts in play than their opponents, that player may choose a Beast they have in play and it is discarded. If they do not choose a Beast, each of their opponents score a card. |
Rules and Rulings
- Universal
- The card effect will activate only if the number of Beasts they have in play is greater than the number of Beasts that any other opponent has. In a game with more than two players, each individual opponent's number of Beasts is compared with the active player separately.
- If the card effect does not activate due to the active player having fewer or the same number of Beasts than an opponent, they skip the rest of the card effect.
Information
Development
- Written by Game Designer J. Evan Raitt:
Early in the story process, it was determined that Demon Lord Zeraxos was the catalyst that brought the Jermaverse characters to the land of the Grotto Beasts. It was going to play out that Zeraxos held a "Rumble to End All Rumbles" and then threw the entire stadium filled with every Jermaverse character into the worst hell imaginable. However, the worst hell that Zeraxos could imagine would be a fun and lively world like that of the Grotto Beasts, a world everyone else loved to be in and thwarting his plans.
As the big bad guy, it was important to have a very destructive ability, or a super powerful one. One of the options that was cut was tweaked and became the card effect for Carl Griffinsteed.
Trivia
- The artwork for Demon Lord Zeraxos was tweaked multiple times, adding more fire and lights every time.
