B. F. Bugleberry is a Challenger Card that was first seen and printed in the Grotto Beasts! Trading Card Game. The character is a reference to the Jermaverse character of the same name as seen in multiple Jerma Rumble streams and the Bugleberry Cauldron and Hot Tub stream.

During either of your action phases at any time, you may rest B. F. Bugleberry and discard three cards from your score pile. If you do, summon any card from your hand free of cost.

Rules and Rulings

Universal

• You cannot rest B. F. Bugleberry and fail to discard the cards, or discard the cards but fail to rest B. F. Bugleberry (such as, the card is already at rest). You must perform both successfully in order for the card effect to be allowed to continue.
• Cards summoned with the card effect must be cards that are located in your hand at the time they are summoned. Cards you may summon as if they were in your hand are not in your hand.

Once it was made canon that B. F. Bugleberry was a summoner of great power, it was imperative the card effect would match. Originally, the card effect allowed players to summon Beasts from their discard pile. It was later changed to summon any card from their deck, but that was quickly scrapped for being overly powerful. To balance the ability for B. F. Bugleberry to summon the most expensive costing cards in the game, it was chosen to spend Scored cards. Spending scored cards came from the game's overall goals of using all cards in the game as a potential resource. Just because the cards were scored and set in a pile, doesn't mean they cannot be used to help the player get ahead of their opponent. Players should consider that every card is always a potential tool, regardless of where it is.

During gameplay testing, moderator Bumble invented a strategy of using B. F. Bugleberry, Dredgelord, and Dire Escape as a way of drawing a massive number of cards. This interaction was not explicitly designed, and was a shock when it was shown to be effective. The unintended strategy was loved so much, it was required to be kept in the final game.

Trivia

• While the Jermaverse lore of B. F. Bugleberry has him summoning variations of Jerma and characters from the Jermaverse, the only Jermaverse character B. F. Bugleberry can summon in Grotto Beasts is Byeah Beast, which isn't a true Jermaverse character. Byeah Beast is the representation of the Byeah as it exists in the world of the Grotto Beasts.
