Information
Development
- Written by Game Designer J. Evan Raitt:
Glueman was the first Jermaverse character to be included into the game, originally a Beast card with a similar card effect. The hope was to build an aggressive Beast that was nearly perfect at both Attacking and Defending, but difficult to ensure he would be at the peak of power. Variations of the ability were made but to ensure the player was still playing the same kind of game as their opponent, Glueman's Power scaled to the number of Beasts the player had summoned. It was later restricted to just Beasts on the Team.
Once Challenger cards and their full-art design was approved, Glueman's ability stuck in place to be the quintessential attacking Challenger - fitting both Glueman's personality as well as a particular deck-building strategy. There were some ideas to update the card effect to be less powerful, but it was determined that if any card was allowed to be overpowered, it would be Glueman.
Trivia
- Ashlelang was immediately chosen as artist due to her previous work with the Glueman T-Shirt, another Jerma985 merchandise item.
- There was a decently large discussion regarding exactly how to name the character, given the multiple ways that Glueman had been represented over various Jerma985 streams and media. "Glueman" was chosen for simplicity.
- Glueman was selected to be Card #001 for being one of the most iconic Jermaverse character, as well as being the best representation of what a Challenger Card is and does. It was settled to be Card #001 nearly at the beginning of the card's inclusion, even before the total number of cards was determined.
